From ute runs to fun runs, Darwin’s got Australia Day sorted! Here are the events and details you need to know.
Where: Hidden Valley Raceway to Darwin Showgrounds
When: 10:30am departure at Hidden Valley Raceway
The streets of Darwin will be filled with a sea of patriotic blue utes showcasing their Aussie pride. Everyone is welcome to join the event which includes a BBQ, raffles, games and activities for all ages. Now in its 15th year, all proceeds made on the day will go to Variety NT.
Where: Mindil Beach
When: 5:00pm – 10:00pm
Cost: Free entry
The Famous Mindil Beach Markets is only open on Thursdays & Sundays. Luckily for us, Australia Day falls on a Thursday. Celebrate the best of Australia (and Darwin) with great food, music and a fantastic display of market stalls. You can then sit back, relax and enjoy a beautiful sunset with family and friends.
Where: Starts at the Darwin Convention Centre & ends at the Darwin Waterside Parklands
When: 7:00am sharp (race start) – 10:00am
Distance: 2.5km or 5km
Cost: Free – Register here.
Start the day bright and early with a fun run around Darwin! You can run or walk, it doesn’t matter as long as you showcase your Aussie pride. Remember! Don’t be afraid to dress up and show off your true Aussie colours.
Where: Vanderlin Drive, Leanyer
When: 9:00am – 6:00pm
Enjoy the slides with the whole family and relax by the waterpark. With BBQ facilities, play equipment and plenty of open space for the kids, Leanyer Recreation Park will ensure a great day of fun. There is also a bike track that goes around the whole park and for those a little more adventurous, the skate park is open.
Where: Casuarina, Nightcliff Swimming Pools
When: 8:00am – 7:30pm
Cost: Free for Australia Day
Pack some snags & salads in your esky and enjoy the day by the pool. Free for Australia Day, facilities include 3 swimming pools, play equipment and plenty of open spaces for that ultimate cricket match.
