Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone

Some days will be amazing, full of laughter and joy. Other days can go terribly wrong. It’s the unpredictability of life and we need to be able to step out of our comfort zones to overcome obstacles in life. learn to be flexible when the unimaginable happens so we can overcome the situations victoriously.

Helping your children step out of their routine and predictability allows them to step into flexibility. When your children try new sports or take risks with their assignments – it creates a space for them to develop their skills and grow as a person in the community.

As a parent, you have a key role to be their foundation. Here are some ways to help your children step out of their comfort zones.

    1. Be a rock for your children

It can be scary facing a fear or taking a risk. Sometimes it works out but other times it fails. In the case that it fails or doesn’t work out, you need to be there to comfort and encourage your children.

Your children look up to you for strength, courage and boldness. As a parent, you have the power to teach them to pick themselves up and persevere in whatever they do. Be that parent they can confide in, open up to and rely on. Support them when they are victorious and when they fall.

    1. Finding the balance

There are different parenting styles out there. As a parent, you know your children best. You know whether to push them or to hold back. Start with small steps first like joining in-school activities or trying new food. Overtime your children will be open to new experiences and be comfortable with unpredictability. Small steps can help your children accomplish larger goals.

    1. Share stories about your brave moments / inspirational people

Talk to your children about inspirational role models and look at their characteristics. For example, Corrie Ten Boom faced her fears when she was placed in a German concentration camp. But Corrie stood courageous and victorious in Jesus through the hardest of times. Ultimately, trusting God to lead her.

This helps to inspire you children and encourage them to step out of their comfort zone. They will face tough situations and obstacles in their lives, being agile to change can help them handle the situations and move forward.

As a parent, you want your children to succeed and dare to step out of the shadow. Finding balance may not be the easiest task, but continue to be that person they find inspiration from and rely on.
